The sixth-seeded Lakers of Detroit Lakes entered Bemidji High School hungry for an upset in the Section 8-3A quarterfinals Tuesday night, holding the third-seeded Lumberjacks boys basketball team to nine points in the first half and hanging on for a 60-48 win.

The Lumberjacks’ season closes with a 17-9 record, losing their last two games to a team that started the season 2-7 before going on a tear in the second half.

The four seniors on the Bemidji squad – Jace Peterson, Tanner Hatfield, Linaes Whiting and Joel Lindsey – have left a mark on the BHS boys basketball program, according to coach Peterson.
