The Bemidji High School boys tennis team officially closed the books on the season after the Section 8AA Individual Tournament wrapped up Friday at St. Cloud Apollo.
Spencer Konecne fell to Jacob Lukkarila of Becker in the singles semifinals before ultimately placing third in the section.
The Bemidji High School boys tennis team came oh-so-close to its first-ever section championship on Thursday.
The Lumberjacks reached the Section 8AA Team Tournament championship in Sartell, where they led Alexandria 3-2 before an eventual 4-3 loss to the Cardinals. BHS defeated Sartell-St. Stephen 5-2 in the semifinals earlier in the day.
The Section 8AA Individual Tournament will resume at 10 a.m. today at St. Cloud Apollo. Konecne enters as the No. 2 singles seed in the North subsection, while Silas Hess and Harrom are the No. 3 doubles seed in the subsection.
Spencer Konecne made a run to the championship match, while the Silas Hess-Wyatt Harrom duo placed third for the Bemidji High School boys tennis team at the Subsection 8AA North Individual Tournament on Tuesday.
The first two rounds were played outdoors at Alexandria before poor weather forced the semifinals and finals to be moved indoors at Sartell.
Konecne advances to the Section 8AA Singles Tournament as the No. 2 seed from the North. He will face South No. 3 Yash Hindka of Sartell-St. Stephen in the first round of the eight-player field.
Silas Hess and Harrom go into the section doubles tournament as a No. 3 seed, where they matched up with South No. 2 Max Fesenmaier and Thomas Connolly of Sartell in the first round.
Both brackets are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, at St. Cloud Apollo.
First, though, the Section 8AA Team Tournament will resume Thursday, May 23, at St. Cloud Apollo. Bemidji faces Sartell-St. Stephen at noon for the chance to reach the championship round at 4 p.m. against the Alexandria/Willmar winner.
