The Bemidji High School volleyball team couldn’t prevent its season from coming to a close on Friday night.
The sixth-seeded Lumberjacks had late leads in multiple sets at third-seeded Brainerd, but Bemidji couldn’t cash in during a 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-23).
BHS (13-16) graduates four seniors in Keena Kondos, Taylor Wade, Hofstad and Takkunen.
The Bemidji High School volleyball team (13-15) survived a scare in its Section 8-3A Tournament opener after Big Lake roared back from two sets down to force a decisive fifth set. The sixth-seeded Lumberjacks prevailed in the winner-take-all set to clinch a 3-2 (27-25, 25-20, 13-25, 28-30, 15-13) win over the 11th-seeded Hornets on Wednesday night at the BHS Gymnasium.
The Lumberjacks will travel to face No. 3 Brainerd (19-8) in the Section 8-3A quarterfinals at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Bemidji fell in four sets to the Warriors in their lone regular-season meeting Sept. 12.
The Bemidji High School volleyball team will open up its Section 8-3A run at home on Wednesday.
The Lumberjacks (12-15) grabbed the section’s No. 6 seed when the bracket was announced Sunday, which earns BHS a home match against No. 11 seed Big Lake to open the postseason. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the high school.
