The Bemidji High School girls soccer team surrendered a pair of goals in a 2-0 road loss to Sartell-St. Stephen on Thursday.
Chloe Turner scored the eventual game-winner in the 33rd minute to send the Sabres to halftime with a 1-0 lead. Reese Kloetzer converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute to seal the win.
BHS fell to 4-3-2, while Sartell improved to 7-2.
The Jacks will return home for their final two regular season games, with the first coming against Rocori at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Chet Anderson Stadium.
Bemidji Pioneer Article:
A long run, a full revolution and a perfect release. The flip throw is no easy feat, but Lauren Berg and Sophie Morin have turned it into an art.
“Whether teams are expecting it or not, I don’t think teams are prepared for it,” Morin said. “Even if they can tell I’m going to go for a flip throw, nobody really knows how to defend it.”
The situation also has to be correct. Ideally, a flip throw is most dangerous on the attacking end, where the ball can be sent into the 18-yard box. It can also be beneficial as a means to alleviate pressure when backed up, since a flip throw can send the ball farther than a normal throw-in. When used well, it’s a powerful weapon to have at your disposal.
The Bemidji High School girls soccer midfielders bring a rare element to the pitch. It’s not often you see flip throws at the high school level, but the Lumberjacks have a pair of players who can pull it off.
Emma Wright netted her first varsity hat trick for the Bemidji girls soccer team in a bizarre 3-1 victory over Fergus Falls on Thursday night at Chet Anderson Stadium.
The Lumberjacks outshot the Otters 38-3, including 22-3 in shots on goal, but goalkeeper Svea Smestad was able to limit the damage by piling up 19 saves for the visitors, whose lone goal came while down a player.
Bemidji improved to 4-2-2 with the win, while Fergus Falls dropped to 3-4-1.
BHS will travel to Sartell-St. Stephen for its next match at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
