BHS lost 3-1 at Sartell-St. Stephen on Thursday in a matchup of Class 3A’s second-ranked Lumberjacks and third-ranked Sabres. After a 10-0 start to the year, Bemidji has lost five games in four days for its first skid that long since 2016.
Bemidji returns to action at 4 p.m. Monday, May 17, with a road contest at Detroit Lakes.
With the state’s top team in town Tuesday, Willmar proved it belongs at the top of Class 3A.
Hosting No. 1 Bemidji for a doubleheader at Bill Taunton Stadium, the No. 3 Cardinals came away with the sweep, 6-2 in game one and 6-3 in game two.
The losses marked the second time in as many days that Bemidji was swept in a doubleheader. The Lumberjacks suffered their first losses of the season to Grand Rapids in Bemidji on Monday.
BHS will be eager to get back in the win column Thursday, May 13, when the Jacks face No. 4 Sartell-St. Stephen in a road game at 5 p.m.
Isaiah Biehn had Alexandria down to its final two outs Tuesday when he realized the gravity of the situation: he was pitching a perfect game.
The Bemidji High School senior sealed the deal and retired the side for the fifth consecutive inning without allowing a baserunner. Biehn capped a doubleheader sweep with his perfect game in a 10-0, five-inning victory at the BSU baseball field. The milestone moment came after a 5-2 win in game one.
BHS will have the rest of the week off before beginning a five-game slate next week with a home doubleheader against Grand Rapids. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Monday, May 10.
